Past and current history continues to show that economist John Maynard Keynes was right about the role of government in economic recoveries. Lack of good jobs is one of our biggest problems, not the deficit. We need more temporary government spending to create jobs and increase demand for goods and services until the recovery is well underway. We could start with investments in our aging infrastructure and in our community colleges which have been neglected at the very time people need more education. Then we can focus on the deficit.

Welcome. Great memories, comedy, music, political and economic commentary, and better living through board riding - it's all here.

I'll Take You There
While we're doing that Soul/R&B thing, here's the Staple Singers with their number one hit from 1972, "I'll Take You There." This R&B classic features Mavis Staple's powerful vocals and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (aka The Swampers). The Memphis Horns added the signature soul horn lines. This song was recorded at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama. In the 1970s Memphis based Stax records began bringing artists down to Muscle Shoals. Many other artists recorded with the Swampers including Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones, and Joe Cocker.

Speaking of Authenticity
This soul classic topped the R&B charts in 1971. The Dramatics - one of the great Soul/R&B groups out of Stax Records in Memphis. Gotta love that bass line.
