Keynes Was Right

Past and current history continues to show that economist John Maynard Keynes was right about the role of government in economic recoveries.  Lack of good jobs is one of our biggest problems, not the deficit.   We need more temporary government spending to create jobs and increase demand for goods and services until the recovery is well underway.  We could start with investments in our aging infrastructure and in our community colleges which have been neglected at the very time people need more education.  Then we can focus on the deficit.

I'll Take You There

While we're doing that Soul/R&B thing, here's the Staple Singers with their number one hit from 1972, "I'll Take You There."  This R&B classic features Mavis Staple's powerful vocals and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (aka The Swampers).  The Memphis Horns added the signature soul horn lines.  This song was recorded at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama.  In the 1970s Memphis based Stax records began bringing artists down to Muscle Shoals.  Many other artists recorded with the Swampers including Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones, and Joe Cocker.

Speaking of Authenticity

This soul classic topped the R&B charts in 1971.  The Dramatics - one of the great Soul/R&B groups out of Stax Records in Memphis.  Gotta love that bass line.

Big Wind at Ebenezer Point - Jordan Lake

Veteran Erik fine tuning his sail
It looked like the Columbia River Gorge out there.  We had about 15 sailors enjoying the strong NW winds.  Gusts in the high 20's.

Big Windnesday Video

Erik and then Brian blasting by while my calf cramps up and I try to hang on.  For some reason it looks like they are getting further away from me.  How do I measure myself against other windsurfers?  By height of course.

Jordan Lake

Beautiful fall day at Ebenezer Point.  SW winds around 15 with nice gusts.  Once again Rambo was the first to come and the last to leave.  Tom, Brian, John H, John R, Jim, Chris, Bill and his daughter, and Patrick were all there.

Ebenezer Point Thursday October 20, 2011

Tom S, Brian, Erik, Michelle, and I had a great afternoon session.  That's Erik in front of me.  For some reason it looks like he is getting further away from me :).   I started on the 7.5, went to the 5.8 when the wind picked up, and then back to the 7.5 to finish the day, all on the 138L Twinser.  I think Erik was on his formula board with a 6.0 in the video.

What a great facility to sail from

It was a beautiful day with good wind and warm water.

Ebenezer Point Windsurfing October 15 2011

It was a gorgeous Fall day with some nice Westerly gusts.  As Brian S and I were slogging we could see a nice SW gust coming across the lake.  About that time Tom S came blasting by and we pulled in behind him.  After we tacked, John R blasted by from the other direction.  Also sailing were John H, Jake, Dana, and Gwynnsurfer.  I sailed my 138L Twinser with an Ezzy Zephyr 7.5.  John H and Dana were also on their 138 and 135 Madd Twinsers.  Thanks to John H for letting me borrow some longer fins.
