Ebenezer Point Windsurfing 01/17/12

Sunny skies, winds in the upper teens, and 65 degrees in mid-January made for a fun session.

Pick Up the Pieces

From 1974 a #1 Pop and #5 R&B hit from Scotland's Average White Band.  Is this funky enough for you?

New Years Day 2012 - Canadian Hole, Hatteras Island

Rotating through a Helitack

Duck Season

Being right in the middle of duck season, I went after some non planing duck jibes in the light winds.  I didn't get my limit but I bagged a few.

New Years in Hatteras

Abby wanted to get out of town for New Years, so with sunny skies, warm temps, and a good wind forecast I was not going to argue with her.  What a great way to end one year and start another.

Nobody Understands Debt

Government debt is fundamentally different than family debt. It's very important to understand the difference with all the lies going around today.

Keynes Was Right

Past and current history continues to show that economist John Maynard Keynes was right about the role of government in economic recoveries.  Lack of good jobs is one of our biggest problems, not the deficit.   We need more temporary government spending to create jobs and increase demand for goods and services until the recovery is well underway.  We could start with investments in our aging infrastructure and in our community colleges which have been neglected at the very time people need more education.  Then we can focus on the deficit.

I'll Take You There

While we're doing that Soul/R&B thing, here's the Staple Singers with their number one hit from 1972, "I'll Take You There."  This R&B classic features Mavis Staple's powerful vocals and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (aka The Swampers).  The Memphis Horns added the signature soul horn lines.  This song was recorded at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama.  In the 1970s Memphis based Stax records began bringing artists down to Muscle Shoals.  Many other artists recorded with the Swampers including Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones, and Joe Cocker.

Speaking of Authenticity

This soul classic topped the R&B charts in 1971.  The Dramatics - one of the great Soul/R&B groups out of Stax Records in Memphis.  Gotta love that bass line.

Big Wind at Ebenezer Point - Jordan Lake

Veteran Erik fine tuning his sail
It looked like the Columbia River Gorge out there.  We had about 15 sailors enjoying the strong NW winds.  Gusts in the high 20's.

Big Windnesday Video

Erik and then Brian blasting by while my calf cramps up and I try to hang on.  For some reason it looks like they are getting further away from me.  How do I measure myself against other windsurfers?  By height of course.
